The Story

It's a worthy showcase that gives an insight into the talents of a much-ignored entertainer

Arthur Prysock was an American jazz, R&B and pop singer, renowned for his mellifluous baritone voice, which many people likened to that of Billy Eckstine. Born in 1924 and hailing from the Carolinas, he worked in the aircraft industry in Connecticut in WWII, before becoming vocalist with Buddy Johnson's band in 1944. He was with Johnson into the early '50s when he started a solo career with Decca, later moving to record for Peacock, Mercury, Wing and Old Town into the early1960s. This great-value 50-track 2-CD collection comprises selected A & B sides of his Decca recordings with The Buddy Johnson Orchestra and his subsequent solo singles for the Decca, Peacock, Mercury, Wing and Old Town during this era. It features his hits with Buddy Johnson 'They All Say I'm The Biggest Fool' and 'Because', and his solo hits from these years 'I Didn't Sleep A Wink Last Night', 'The Very Thought Of You' and 'One More Time'. It's a worthy showcase that gives an insight into the talents of a much-ignored entertainer during the key formative era of his career.
