The album BUT FOR NOW, recorded by Bob Dorough at the age of 91 in the Fall of 2014, is clearly sensational. It is hard to believe that a man of his age can sing and play the pi-ano with such rigor and verve. Bob, born in the deep South of the US, started his career as pianist for the legendary singing boxer Sugar Ray Robinson. He played with Charlie Parker, recorded two songs for Miles Davis, but his claim to fame on TV came with music for children. His song 'Three is a Magic Number' was sampled by De La Soul; Jamie Cullum and Diana Krall play his songs, and Bob himself is on tour, untiring and enthusiastic despite of being one of the oldest active jazz musicians.
Bob is best known as a composer and he rarely records anything but his own songs. The album BUT FOR NOW is the exception; here he does standards like „Girl From Ipanema', ''Georgia'' or ''Take Five'' but in such a unique and expressive way, only known so far from his live performances. He lives and enjoys every nuance of the songs, which he has played countless times in jazz clubs all over the world. The intimate trio, playing without drums, enhances the authentic feel of the recording from the legendary Red Rock Studio in Pennsylvania. The songs were recorded strictly live, without overdubbing.
