This is the last recording of legendary Chet Baker.
This is the last recording of legendary Chet Baker. The producer of NDR radio in Hamburg (who had set in with Chet at a Hamburg jazz club as a drummer many years ago which was an unforgettable experience for him) had asked Chet what his favorite project would be, carte blanche. Well, he answered that he would love to record with a quintet of good friends, a jazz big band and a symphonic orchestra. All were provided and the result is a breath taking event indeed. Chet had recorded for many records in many years, we had met in the '70ties in Paris and later in New York where I did several projects with him so it was a natural that this incredible performance was released by ENJA. This CD put us on the map on a worldwide scale. Chet Baker was found dead a short time later I front of his hotel in Amsterdam, the mysterious circumstances of his death were never cleared. He had plans to buy a small house in the Paris neighborhood and was full of good spirits so a suicide about which was often rumored is out of the question. The probability of a crime is high but Amsterdam police shipped his body immediately to Los Angeles, I visited his wife in Yale, Oklahoma and secured the rights to the wonderful music.
