The Story
Mixing timeless traditions with fresh ideas, Louisiana's rich cultural rhythms are advanced by this fourth and fifth generation Creole Zydeco family.
Corey Arceneaux is a veteran Zydeco accordionist, known for making the accordion talk. He is also a vocalist, songwriter, recording engineer, and radio personality. Performing professionally since 1991, his musical journey began when he toured with his great uncle, Fernest Arceneaux, a zydeco pioneer who entertained audiences for over half a century. As a fourth-generation accordionist, Corey follows in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, continuing a rich family tradition.
His latest project, Accordion Man, recorded with the Zydeco Fusion Band, marks Corey's four decades playing the accordion. By collaborating with his sons, Corey is ushering in the fifth generation of family musicians - blending tradition with innovation. The project honors the group's African American Creole roots and highlights Corey's distinctive artistry and storytelling through music.
Drawing inspiration from Zydeco legends like Clifton Chenier, Fernest Arceneaux, and Buckwheat Zydeco, as well as the 'Lafayette Zydeco' sound, Corey's music reflects a deep connection to Louisiana's vibrant culture. He has performed nationally and internationally, including appearances at major festivals such as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. His new studio project, Accordion Man, was recorded at the Grammy Award-winning Dockside Studio in Maurice, Louisiana, and features two-time GRAMMY-winning guitarist Joe 'Cookie' Chavis, and multiple GRAMMY nominee Cecil Green, among other master musicians.
