Fai Baba is finally back. Following his collaboration with Long Tall Jefferson and Paul Märki last year, his new album Fäderliecht has now been released--a journey between neo-folk and chamber pop. The album is available as a vinyl LP on A Tree In A Field Records.
With Fäderliecht, Fai Baba, together with the string quartet Amour sur Mars, presents an album that feels like a gentle sunrise, gradually revealing its radiant facets throughout the day. Fai Baba describes the album as 'delicate and fragile, intimate and gentle--a work that comes straight from the heart.' The creation of Fäderliecht spanned over a year, and behind its apparent lightness lies a great deal of work. Together with producer Manuel Egger and versatile musician Mario Hänni, Fai Baba crafted a new sound that expands the boundaries of Swiss neo-folk and ventures into the realm of 'Swiss chamber pop.' This unique sound owes much to the 'special touch' of Amour sur Mars. Fäderliecht draws inspiration from a wide spectrum: the hypnotic patterns of Philip Glass, the minimalist sounds of Moondog, the dreamy melodies of The Beatles, and the unmistakable style of Sixto Rodriguez. The influence of jazz icons like Alice Coltrane is also palpable. Electric and acoustic guitars, Fender amps, and analog equipment contribute to the album's warm, authentic sound, reminiscent of recordings from the 1950s and 1960s.
