The children of slain parents arising from a grudge find the previous generation's curse has passed onto them

When money lender Soetsu (Kenjirô Ishiyama, High and Low) goes to collect a debt from samurai Fukami (Saburô Date, Ugetsu), the swordsman's wife Sawano (Mitsuko Tanaka, Giants and Toys) offers to repay with her body. Finding them in bed, Fukami kills them and dumps their corpses in a nearby swamp, but soon after he himself is found dead in an apparent suicide. Fukami's delinquent son Shingoro (Teruo Ishiyama, Lone Wolf and Cub) and Soetsu's shrewd daughter Oshiga (Maya Kitajima, Haunted Samurai) both go in search of the money. As they cross paths, it becomes clear that the curse has passed to the next generation when the ghosts of Sawano and Soetsu begin to haunt them and bring misfortune at every turn.

Director Kimiyoshi Yasuda's color palette captures the misty swamp exteriors and ghostly hauntings with remarkable depth and detail, uncovering fine grain structures and nuanced lighting that underscore the multi-generational tragedy.
