For this disc I have chose works from two contrasting categories; Préludes and Fugues, and Fantasies. Where the Préludes and Fugues pay tribute to Bach, the Fantasies unleash the mood-painter in Saint-Sãens. Fritz Morris assigns the organ works by Saint-Sãens to three periods. Of the items on this record, the Fantasie in E flat major dates from the St Merry period, the six Préludes and Fugues and the Fantaise in D flat major were written diring his time at St Séverin, and the C major Fantasie represents his late period.
