With this album, Jeffar Lumban Gaol and his ensemble are reviving different forms of Batak music. The gondang music for instance, an essential part of every sacred ceremony, was repressed since the Batak region was converted to Christianity. Nowadays the lively music of the Batak people is again famous throughout Indonesia and beyond.
One of the special features of the Jeffar Lumban Gaol Ensemble is the use of three Taganing drum sets with a total of 21 drums, whose diverse and complex rhythm patterns increase the ensemble to breathtaking dynamics. Delicate sounds of bamboo flutes and the string instrument Hasapi form the calming pole in the music.
