Album from Joe Webb

Following the release of the acclaimed EPs Collblanc and SET during early 2024, Joe Webb releases his much-anticipated full-length album Hamstrings & Hurricanes, featuring the formidable talents of Will Sach on bass and Sam Jesson on drums. This album more than confirms the trio's early promise and elevates them to a unique location in the modern jazz landscape.

“For the final track “Hiraeth” (“homesick” in Welsh) I wanted a more chilled version of Oasis’ “Shakermaker”. That era was the starting point of my love of music. I loved the way it made me feel. I started to get that same feeling when listening to Duke Ellington, Franz Liszt, Billie Holiday, Oscar Peterson, Blur, Art Tatum and the list goes on… Also, I should add that the handwriting on the album cover was inspired by the Oasis album cover “Definitely Maybe.“

Joe Webb is an extraordinarily gifted pianist and improviser who, taking inspiration from the flavour of 90's Brit-pop and adding references to his Welsh cultural roots, seamlessly blends traditional jazz with contemporary flair. His innovative approach breathes new life into classic jazz idioms, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly original. The Joe Webb Trio's ability to amalgamate the old and the new has garnered them a deserved reputation for pushing the boundaries of jazz while respecting its rich heritage.
