The Story
power and precision of the classic big band with contemporary influences from urban funk, hip-hop, and R&B, complemented by vibrant Latin rhythms
With the album 'The Reel,' Matthias Bublath continues to develop his Eight Cylinder Bigband. The project combines the power and precision of the classic big band with contemporary influences from urban funk, hip-hop, and R&B, complemented by vibrant Latin rhythms. The music thrives on the ensemble's palpable joy in playing and the energy of a group that has grown together over many years.
At its heart is the interplay between big band and Hammond organ - a rare combination that lends the project its characteristic energy. All arrangements and compositions are by Bublath himself (with the exception of three cover pieces) and are distinguished by a wide stylistic range, precise craftsmanship, and subtle rhythmic and harmonic details.
A versatile keyboardist, Bublath moves effortlessly between Hammond organ, Fender Rhodes, and analog synthesizers. His musical language is shaped by international experience: tours and extended work stays took him to places like Cuba and Brazil. However, his style was decisively molded in New York, where he lived and worked for nearly a decade, developing artistically in one of the world's most demanding jazz metropolises.
Special guests Norisha Campbell and Kay-Ree enrich the album with three vocal tracks that are situated between soul, R&B and modern urban influences.
