On July 29, 1995, the Greek composer, conductor, and cosmopolite Mikis Theodorakis turned 70. He celebrated with a magnificent concert on May 11 at the Philharmonie in Munich's Gasteig. Accompanying him were Maria Farantouri, renowned as the ideal interpreter of his songs; Lakis Karnezis, a celebrated bouzouki player; and a band of nine other musicians. This celebration of contemporary Greek music was one of the few concerts at which Theodorakis sang his own songs. He sang 'Agapi mou,' made famous by Melina Mercouri. Other songs included 'Sotiris Petroulas,' 'Pou Petaxe To Agori Mou,' '18 November,' and 'To Gelasto Paidi,' among others.
