The Story
With his album Internal Eyes, the multiple award-winning clarinetist Rolf Kühn once again sets new standards in the world of jazz.
Rolf Kühn has enriched the Intuition catalog in recent years with recordings that meet the highest jazz standards in every respect. A well-balanced, homogeneous mix of standards and originals, a carefully selected guest list that avoided embarrassing name-dropping--after all, Germany's leading clarinetist always collaborated with musicians of equal caliber, including many key figures from the German jazz scene. Can this be topped? Rolf Kühn can, and his new album Internal Eyes is compelling proof of that.
A superb choice for this project was tenor saxophonist Bob Mintzer, who contributed three of his own highly groovy compositions. Speaking of groove, Frank Chastenier must be mentioned--he delivered an outstanding performance on the Hammond organ. In beautiful contrast, the album also features intimate ballads recorded by Rolf Kühn together with the great French jazz master Martial Solal, with support from Westdeutscher Rundfunk.
Offering a glimpse into his next project for Intuition, Rolf Kühn presents For All We Know. Thanks to his excellent connections, he was able to bring in the string ensemble of the Babelsberg Film Orchestra for a recording. On his next album, he will also be heard with the RIAS Big Band, among others.
