A jazz comeback in a class of its own. More than 20 years after their last release, Steps Ahead present a new album. For »Steppin' Out«, the legendary 2016 fusion jazz band rearranged and reinterpreted eight of their classics, including hits like »Pools«, »Sara's Touch«, »Oops« and »Trains«.

The band's current lineup is a real all-star line-up. Founding member Mike Mainieri (vibraphone), saxophonist Bill Evans, guitarist Chuck Loeb, bassist Tom Kennedy and drummer Steve Smith make the honors on »Steppin' Out«.

And that's not all. They receive support from the WDR Big Band. The American jazz pianist and conductor Michael Abene took over the musical direction.

In April 2016 they went together to the WDR studio in Cologne for the recordings, where they recorded the songs within just four days.

The result is a great supergroup best-of album that still sounds surprisingly fresh. Steps Ahead have always been a few steps ahead of their time.
