Hot Number was originally released in 1987 and made the top fifty on the Billboard Album Chart. The T-Birds supported the album by touring the USA with Crosby, Stills & Nash. The album was the second one by the band under their new Sony record deal. Once again, it was produced by Dave Edmunds who also contributed on guitar and vocals.

It was recorded at Ardent Studio in Memphis featuring Kim Wilson, Jimmie Vaughan, Preston Hubbard and Fran Christina with Dave Edmunds on guitar and vocals, Chuck Leavell on keyboards plus the Memphis Horns adding their unique touch, leading one reviewer to describe it as 'sweaty, grimy, bar-room rock 'n' soul'. This re-issue is one of the eight (blue) vinyl editions scheduled for release in 2026 that represent the band's complete studio recordings with Jimmie Vaughan on guitar before he left to pursue a solo career.
