In planning this first profile disc of the Zagros chamber ensemble, we wanted to create a dramaturgically coherent whole that would give the listener an opportunity both to find something new and to discover a fresh slant on something familiar. We chose five Finnish works premiered by Zagros in recent years, and a classic at the very roots of contemporary music: the Six Bagatelles for string quartet by Anton Webern. On this disc, the order of the pieces is rather unorthodox - the Bagatelles are separated from one another. With their potent and extremely concise sound world, they give the programme an extra musical dimension that persists throughout the disc.
